At just 19, Kamal Naina Lakra from Barbil stepped up when her family needed her the most. Living in Azad Basti with a family of six, she watched her father stop working due to health issues, leaving her mother to manage the household through small domestic work jobs. With daily expenses becoming difficult to manage, Kamal Naina decided she had to find a way forward.
While searching for work opportunities, she joined the Foundation Course at Barbil Lighthouse after hearing about it from a friend. Through activities like Straw Bridge and Naiya Paar, she began building confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Determined to grow further, she completed a Hotel Management course and prepared herself for the hospitality industry.
Today, Kamal Naina works as a Steward at Pista House and has become the main earner for her family. She is now a role model in her community, proudly guiding other young people toward opportunities at Lighthouse.
With the support of SBI Foundation, Lighthouse Communities Foundation continues to support youth like Kamal Naina in building brighter futures with confidence and dignity.
