City-Specific programs for Livelihood, Digital Empowerment and Public Education
In addition to the core Lighthouse program, we run various programs from creating employment opportunities for youth through GOYN – Global Opportunity Youth Network, to digitally empowering citizens and improving quality of education in public schools.
Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN)
GOYN is a global initiative catalyzing systems shifts for youth opportunity in communities worldwide through the creation of sustainable training, employment, and income-earning pathways. The Global Opportunity Youth Network is housed at the Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions and is co-designed by global partners.
Pune City Connect is the anchor partner for GOYN, Pune. Working on the principle of “Collective Impact”, GOYN Pune facilitates a deeper level of ecosystem collaboration and coordinated action to transform livelihood opportunities for Opportunity Youth at the city level for young people aged 15-29.

Digital Empowerment
This program aims to digitally empower citizens from low-income communities so that they access opportunities for growth and well-being for self, family and the city. The program is administered online/through Digital Empowerment centres via a short yet powerful 40-hour curriculum that prepares participants to be a Digital Citizen, Digital Learner and Digital Customer.
Goal & Impact
Currently deployed in Pune, Maharashtra, the program’s mission is to enable 100% Digital Empowerment – at least one person in every low-income household in every city to leverage the internet to improve quality of life.
Citizens across 500 slum communities and low-income communities to be trained by 2025.

Quality Education
The program is designed to enable full potential for children and teachers in public schools. Currently implemented in Pune, Maharashtra, the program is enabling well-being, identity, positive self-image and a sense of belonging for children by creating an environment where children are empowered to drive their learning. At the same time, the teacher-mentoring program enhances the efficacy of teachers, thus driving better academic outcomes.

Born in a family where girls were not wanted or appreciated, Mrs. Nakusa Pawar is like a ray of sunshine. The name Nakusa means ‘unwanted’ in Marathi. Mrs. Pawar has made it her life’s mission to change that perception and spread warmth and happiness wherever she goes.

Our Other Initiatives
COVID-Relief Work – Fundraising for Critical Medical Equipments & Devices
Lighthouse Communities designed a fundraiser towards buying critical medical equipment as per the list of items shared by PMC’s health department for setting up a fully equipped 330 bed COVID hospital in the Baner area and other hospitals. In addition, on 9th May 2021, Austin Pune Sister City International (APSCI) initiated a fundraising campaign for buying critical equipment to enable the public health infrastructure to be more ready to fight the continued pandemic.
COVID-Relief Work – Supporting the Vaccination Drive
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) needed Data Entry Operators to support and manage the COWIN Portal in order to Increase vaccination coverage. Thanks to donations received, Lighthouse Communities was able to place 15 Data Entry Operators from low income communities with a stipend of ₹8000/Month to aid this effort.
