Meet Ranu, a brave 34-year-old woman residing in the Nabin Nagar slum of Bhubaneswar. Despite encountering numerous challenges, she has shown remarkable strength in facing the world. As a single mother, she courageously embraced the responsibilities that accompanied motherhood at a young age. Nurturing a child with different abilities demanded even more courage and commitment from Ranu, as she worked to overcome societal limitations and biases. To create a safe environment for herself and her child, Ranu chose to live with her parents, escaping the burdens of a dysfunctional marital relationship. It was during this time that she discovered the Lighthouse program.
Enrolling in the Lighthouse Foundation Course, Ranu made a firm resolve to pave a path of happiness and success for herself. Speaking about her determination, she said, “Though I face numerous challenges, I excel in communication skills.” With this mindset, Ranu decided to enroll in a beauty course. Despite being unable to complete her formal education due to family circumstances, she is eager to learn the Basic Beauty Parlour Course through hands-on experience.
Ranu’s life journey reminds us not to give up when the going gets tough. She exemplifies the notion that while we may not always control our circumstances, we always have the power to choose how we respond to them.
